Anya Katsukova is a nurse studying to be a doctor under the supervision of Dr. Blythe. She was originally born and raised in Mishara, moved to Aubeny when she was eight, and then came to Esk with Dr. Blythe. One of the things Anya was taught during her childhood was that there is no magic, which is why Anya finds it difficult to take in when things go bump in the night.
Anya's happiness comes from serving others more than herself. She looks out for everyone around her with a wish to preserve their health for as long as possible. She is also a very career minded young lady and absolutely refuses to do anything that may jeopardize her chances of becoming a doctor.

Anya: Robyn would like nothing more than for me to give up being a nurse and become a farmwife. I'm not interested.
Petria: He wouldn't say that!
Anya: Well... not in those exact words.
Jonas: It's important to believe in something, don't you think?
Anya: Yes. But I'm quite content to limit that to the Misharan god. Your spirits and hellions only seem to complicate things.
Jonas: I may have to agree on that front!
Jonas: Do you speak the language well?
Anya: Well enough.
Jonas: Teach me something!
Anya: Um... Ty krasivy.
Jonas: Which means...? Oh come on now, you must tell me! You could have called me a beastly old git! I should be indignant! I say. That's just not fair.
Anya: Well you're married.
Jonas: You don't find it fun? The tension of the hunt, the thrill of the chase, and all that?
Anya: It's my job to fix people's injuries, not encourage their infliction.
Jonas: She haunts my dreams. I think she will not be satisfied until I am quite beyond help. Are all women so vindictive?
Anya: She only haunts you because you allow it. A dream is only as strong as its dreamer.
